Around 12 patients have lost their lives during the attack on the Punjab Institute of Cardiology in Lahore today morning, according to the president of the Young Doctors Association.
Lawyers gathered today outside PIC to protest a recent incident of altercation between doctors and lawyers. During the protest, lawyers got violent and barged into the hospital, breaking the windows of cars parked at the premises.
Lawyers also broke into the emergency ward, breaking the ward’s windows. Local media has reported that the lawyers took over the inside of the hospital and beat up doctors, nurses, and even patients and woman journalists.
Lawyers have also set fire to a police mobile stationed near the hospital. Meanwhile, Provincial Information Minister Fayyaz Ul Hassan Chohan has been beaten up by lawyers at PIC.
The lawyers also damaged operating machinery and broke cameras and phones of patients and journalists recording the incident.
Reportedly, police are present at the scene but have been unable to contain the crowd of rowdy lawyers.
According to reports by TV channels, a patient named Gulshan Bibi lost her life during the storming of PIC’s premises. Gulshan Bibi’s son told media that his mother died as there was no doctor available in the emergency ward to treat her.
