KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) senior leadership has decided that the party will not support any move to create a new province within Sindh, or separate Karachi from the province, according to senior journalist and anchorperson Hamid Mir. The claim was made in a post shared on X by journalist Ahsan Jadoon, accompanied by a video clip featuring Mir.
According to the reported position, PTI may support the creation of new provinces in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as part of broader discussions on administrative restructuring. However, the party will oppose any proposal aimed at carving a new province out of Sindh or separating Karachi from the rest of the province.

The reported stance comes amid a renewed political debate over the creation of new provinces in Pakistan. MQM-P has recently intensified its campaign for additional administrative units, including in Sindh, arguing that the country’s existing provincial structure has failed to meet growing governance and service-delivery needs.
Earlier this year, the Sindh Assembly passed a resolution rejecting any attempt to divide the province or establish a separate province comprising Karachi. PTI lawmakers in the provincial assembly were among those who supported the resolution, which reaffirmed Karachi as an integral part of Sindh.
