ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Friday turned the death sentence of convict Karim Nawaz into life imprisonment. Earlier, a trial court in 2007 had found Karim guilty of murdering his sister, brother and sister-in-law in Mianwali.
Previously the trial court convicted Nawaz on three counts of murder and one count of terrorism. As reported by Dawn, when Nawaz reconciled with his family, all charges of murder were dropped but not the terrorism one.
Until recently, both Lahore High Court and the apex court have upheld the death sentences until recently. The three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, however ruled to convert the death sentence into life imprisonment.
