The federal government is under criticism for not inviting opposition leaders at the official banquet and other events to be hosted for Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman.
Reacting to the development, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Qamar Zaman Kair said that the government should have invited the opposition to the events being organised for the Saudi crown prince. “The guest would have felt more honoured if all the political parties were there to receive him,” he said.
Kaira added that the whole nation had a religious relation with Saudi Arabia due to sacred sites, and the government made a mistake by ignoring the opposition.
According to sources, the decision has been taken due to ‘poor relations’ between the government and the opposition and the ongoing inquiries against leaders of opposition parties.
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and Pakistan Muslim League – N (PML-N) leader Shehbaz Sharif are facing cases pertaining to fake bank accounts and misuse of power respectively.
Islamabad is hoping to sign a raft of investment deals and other agreements during the two-day visit. The crown prince will meet Prime Minister Imran Khan and army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
VISIT DELAYED
Meanwhile, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's visit to Pakistan was delayed by a day. He will now arrive on Sunday, February 17, the Foreign Office said in a statement. However, no explanation has been given for the delay.
The Foreign Ministry statement says Prince MBS will now arrive in Islamabad on a two-day visit on Sunday and that his program remains unchanged.
