‘Ashamed and disappointed’: Dollar hike lands PTI in more trouble

The troubles of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government just don’t seem to have an end. Where just yesterday they issued a newspaper advertisement to highlight their 100-day ‘achievements’, today the tables have turned again. Now this one is not a new dilemma for Prime Minister Imran Khan and his squad. The Dollar has not been very welcoming of the new government.

And this time around, the greenback has broken all records as it hit an all-time high of Rs144 during intraday trading on Friday. It did go down to Rs140 by the evening, but the soar is unbelievably high still. According to Dawn News, the Rs10 rise in the value of the US dollar is owning to PTI government’s commitments to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Finance Minister Asad Umar also addressed the issue and said that the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) sets the currency rates. He also went on to blame the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for the crisis saying that Nawaz league’s policies have caused it. So much so that Imran and his men fail to comprehend and carve out solutions to the problems.
Seriously PML-N, how could you?
The news has spread like fire on social media and ‘Dollar’ is the number one trend on Twitter in Pakistan. It has gathered over 6,000 tweets on the micro-blogging platform and majority of the people are not saying nice things about PM Imran and his team.
PTI supporters are extremely disappointed with the way the party is handling things

‘Stop giving speeches of being an opening batsmen’
It would be criminally ignorant of me if I kept my mouth shut at this #Dollar/Rupee debacle.
There are a million ways to keep the Rupee stable. Even a Munshi like #Dar knew it. Its not #RocketScience.
Stop giving speeches of being an opening #batsman.
GO, BAT and SCORE.

It is clear that PTI is finding it hard to deal with issues, even if the issues have been inherited. Pakistan’s economic condition is quite abysmal at present and it will take sustainable and rational planning to deal with the woes. Our best wishes are with the ruling government, but it’s about time they stop talking and start practical implementation.
