According to the official documents, a copy which is available with Naya Daur, IESCO employees allegedly installed more than 300 high-power fake meters and transformers in the under-construction buildings and plazas of mainly two housing societies of Islamabad; Ghauri Town and Gulberg Greens.
In return, the management of the said private societies allegedly gifted plots, houses, and villas to the IESCO’S employees involved in the mega scam. The mass-level corruption caused revenue loss worth of billions to national exchequer and IESCO.
The documents revealed that in the last three year, more than 160 bogus meters were installed in Ghauri Town Phase-1 and Phase-6 of Islamabad. Similarly, more than 170 bogus high-power meters and transformers were installed in Gulberg Green Islamabad.
An official of IESCO, on the condition of anonymity, said that the electricity supplier company gives a huge amount in terms of bribe to the gas and electricity departments to facilitate the residents of these societies. “Despite a ban on the installation of meters, fake meters were installed in under-construction buildings and plazas of these housing societies.”
The official further said that once a linemen pointed out the matter with IESCO office in Islamabad, but the management instead of taking action against the culprits, suspended the lineman and initiated a departmental inquiry against him.
“Despite the presence of solid proofs of fake meters installation in Nilore, Khana and Tarlai areas, no action was taken against the culprits. There are dozens of houses in the aforementioned societies that were gifted to the employees of IESCO against installing fake meters,” the official added.
