Muharram Procession Allegedly Attacked In Islamabad
A Muharram procession in Tarlai area of Islamabad was allegedly attacked by unknown individuals who pelted stones at the attendees while chanting hateful slogans against the Shia community. A woman is said to be injured in the incident.

An eyewitness told Naya Daur Media on the condition of anonymity that a mourning procession comprising some 200 people was passing through the Tarlai area of Islamabad when more than 100 people began pelting stones at it. They also chanted slogans against the Shia community which created a sense of fear among the mourners, as per the eye witness.

The eyewitness further said that policemen were present to guard the procession but the incident took place despite their presence. Pamphlets inciting violence against the Shia community were also distributed, the eyewitness said. They however did not provide evidence of these pamphlets.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad tweeted that this incident was not true. He however did not provide any further details.

SP Rural Islamabad confirmed to Naya Daur that the incident did take place but added that the police had acted on time. He said that some 500 people who came out of the Ayesha Siddiqua mosque and began pelting stones at the procession.
