Up to 17 officials of the Punjab police appear to have suspected cases of Coronavirus infection. They have now been moved into quarantine. Test results for some have already come back positive, while those for the others are still awaited.
These officials of the police had been deployed to work alongside medical staff in the pandemic, at sites where chances of encountering a Covid-19 patient are much higher: i.e. quarantine facilities, hospitals and streets. Most of these suspected Covid-19 patients from among the police are constables. There is one sub-inspector one assistant sub-inspector (ASI) among them.
Police sources confirm that they are being given all the necessary treatment and that at least 2 cases have already recovered from Covid-19.
