Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday condemned the mass shooting in New Zealand mosques saying that the attacks were a result of growing Islamophobia around the world.

Taking to Twitter in the wake of the attack, Khan said that he was ‘shocked’ at the incident. He condemned the attack saying that it ‘reaffirms that terrorism has no religion’. He offered prayers for the victims and their families.

Khan said that he blamed these increasing terror attacks on the current Islamophobia post-9/11. The premier said Islam and 1.3 billion Muslims have collectively been blamed for any act of terror by a Muslim and that led to a rise in Islamophobia.

“This has been done deliberately to also demonize legitimate Muslim political struggles,” he said.

President Arif Alvi also condemned the attack and offered prayers and condolences to the victim families.

“Shocked and grieved to learn about the horrific massacre in Christchurch Mosque. My prayers for the victims. May their souls rest in peace. My condolences to the families. I pray they have strength to bear this loss,” he said.
