CTD Officer Ghani Khan Slain In Peshawar
PESHAWAR: A senior police officer of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) lost his life in an attack on a vehicle at Peshawar. According to police sources District Superintendent Police (DSP) Ghani Khan of Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) was assassinated in an attack near Shahpur check-post.

The DSP's security guard Rashid and driver Nasir were injured in the firing.

Local sources said that DSP had personal enmity with close family relatives over a property dispute. Yet police have not confirmed whether the murder was outcome of a personal enmity, an instance of target killing or a terrorist incident.

Among the four people seriously wounded in the firing, two, including the DSP, died on the spot. The others, according to Rescue 1122, were moved to hospital.

“DSP Ghani Khan embraced martyrdom on the spot before police party reached there,” according to a source.

The firing on the DSP of the CTD was carried out when he was traveling in his car from his home to his office. Two passersby also got injured in the firing incident and were rushed to Lady Reading Hospital. Soon after the attack, the DIG of the CTD in Peshawar, along with a huge contingent of police, reached the site and launched a search operation.

Chief Minister of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Mehmood Khan took notice of the attack and called the Inspector General Police Naeem Khan to table a complete inquiry report immediately. The CM expressed grief and sorrow over the death of the CTD official and also conveyed his condolences and sympathies to the family of the deceased police officer. Moreover, the CM issued instructions for the provision of better healthcare facilities to those wounded in the attack.

The SSP Operations for Peshawar City, Zahoor Afridi, visited the site and an investigation has been initiated. According to the police, a search operation to find the shooters has been started and the culprits will soon be in custody.

Peshawar city remained unsafe for security officers in the past, due to which a number of officers embraced martyrdom. Recently SSP Rural Peshawar Tahir Dawar was kidnapped from Islamabad and found murdered in Afghanistan. Still the case of his mysterious murder is pending resolution, which has raised some fundamental questions on the ability of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police.
