National Accountability Bureau summoned Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Khursheed Shah’s brother, who passed away eight years ago.
NAB Sukkur issued a notification on February 25, directing the PPP leader’s brother late Syed Ali Nawaz Shah to appear before Joint Investigation Team (JIT) by March 3, at NAB Sukkur office. The investigation agency summoned late Syed Nawaz in an alleged corruption case of his brother and former minister Khursheed Shah.
Both mainstream political parties Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have been accusing ruling party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of 'witch-hunting' the opposition parties in the name of accountability. However, the government claims that the accountability drive is across the board.
NAB had arrested senior PPP stalwart Khursheed Shah in September last year, in a case regarding his alleged assets beyond means. The anti-corruption watchdog had claimed that the former minister had acquired assets worth Rs 700 million on names of his front-men, and had misused his authority to give huge contracts to partners in Sindh, through which millions of rupees were embezzled.
