Syrian Charge d'Affaires Highlights Hope For Syria’s Recovery, Regional Peace

Syrian Charge d'Affaires in Qatar, Dr. Belal Tourkya, extended heartfelt gratitude to the leadership and people of Qatar for their unwavering support and belief in the Syrian people's rightful struggle to guide their nation toward peace, security, and development both within Syria and in the region.

The Syrian embassy in Qatar is the only embassy in the world opened by the Syrian opposition, a day after opponents of then-Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad were granted Syria’s seat at the Arab League. The embassy of the Syrian National Coalition was inaugurated on March 27, 2013, by Opposition Chief Ahmed Moaz Alkhatib and then-Qatari State Minister for Foreign Affairs Khaled Al-Attiya.

In an interview with Naya Daur, Dr. Tourkya emphasized Syria's inherent potential, asserting that its land and people possess the capability to wisely manage their affairs and contribute significantly to regional peace and progress. He expressed confidence that after enduring years of oppression, sacrifice, and struggle, the emerging Syrian leadership—backed by a united populace and a rich civilization spanning thousands of years—would demonstrate to the world that Syria is a responsible and cultured nation.

Calling for unity among his compatriots, he urged Syrians to come together in rebuilding the country, restoring peace, revitalizing the economy, and presenting a positive image of Syria to the global community. Despite the immense challenges ahead, the Charge d'Affaires expressed optimism that, with Syria's vast skills, resources, and support from peace-loving, friendly nations, the country could recover swiftly from decades of hardship.

Dr. Tourkya also highlighted the eagerness of Syrian refugees to return home as a sign of hope and determination to rebuild the country. He underscored the collective effort required, emphasizing that such unity would not only benefit Syria but also strengthen its ties with the international community, paving the way for mutual economic growth and cultural exchange.

He encapsulated this vision with a call to "bring them back, adopt them, and rebuild together." Addressing the Syrian community in Qatar, Tourkya delivered a message of hope and solidarity, describing this period as a historic turning point.

He stressed the need to transcend divisions, foster love and solidarity, and work collaboratively for a brighter future. Acknowledging past fears and hesitations, he reassured his audience that now is the time to move forward with courage and focus on the well-being of Syria and its institutions.

In conclusion, Tourkya reaffirmed the importance of unity, mutual support, and collective action, expressing his steadfast belief that Syria's future depends on the shared efforts of all Syrians, both within the country and abroad.
