Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and PTI founder Imran Khan's sister, Aleema Khan, were involved in another heated argument at Adiala Jail on Monday. They were there for a hearing in the new Toshakhana case. The verbal clash also included Khan’s lawyer, Faisal Chaudhry, and Mashal Yousafzai, the spokesperson for Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi.
As per sources, the disagreement stemmed from a discussion about the November 24 protest called by the former prime minister Imran Khan. Bushra Bibi had briefed her husband on the protest, telling him that there had been little participation from Punjab. Barrister Gohar then interrupted, stating that 5,000 people had been arrested from Punjab. He went on to explain the ongoing crackdown and the mass arrests targeting PTI members in the province.
Aleema Khan then questioned Faisal Chaudhry about the lack of access to newspapers and other facilities for her brother while in jail. In response, Chaudhry assured her that he was doing everything he could and expressed concern over why senior party officials were not actively involved in the court proceedings.
Aleema also raised the issue of a monitoring commission set up by the Islamabad High Court. Mashal Yousafzai, in turn, accused Chaudhry of obstructing the commission's work. Chaudhry defended himself by saying the commission was court-mandated and out of his control.
Barrister Gohar Ali Khan suggested that certain matters should be left to the party’s leadership to avoid confusion. He warned that continuous debates about protests and sacrifices might lead to disorder within the party. Imran Khan also mentioned that the hesitation seen in Punjab was due to harsh actions by the authorities in the region. He also highlighted the disappearance of 200 participants from the D-Chowk protest.
This incident marked the second time in less than 10 days that Aleema Khan and Barrister Gohar had clashed at Adiala Jail. On December 5, Aleema had previously confronted Barrister Gohar and Barrister Salman Akram Raja over claims about deaths during the party’s protests in Islamabad.
