After a slow start to testing, Punjab has exceeded Sindh by a significant margin in the number of tests it conducts for Covid-19. As the number of confirmed Coronavirus cases shoots up across Pakistan, a larger number of positive cases is now being identified in Punjab. This could be explained by the fact that Punjab has conducted nearly 15,000 tests by now. By comparison, the Sindh government has tested around 7,000 people by now.
Testing figures from Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa are significantly lower.
Federal Planning Minister Asad Umar told the media that the number of labs that have the capacity to test for Covid-19 had increased from 13 to 30 and would soon reach 32. He further noted that current testing capacity in the country is 280,000, but this would rise to 900,000 by April 15.
