A 11-year-old minor was succumbed to Covid-19 at Children’s Hospital Lahore on Monday. She was the first child who lost her life due to the deadly coronavirus in Punjab.
DAWN reported that the minor, identified as Maryam, was brought from Okara to the Children’s Hospital after she tested positive for the virus.
Children’s Hospital Dean Prof Dr Masood Sadiq told the newspaper that the girl was bought with co-morbidities. “She was diagnosed with chronic liver disease and had also undergone liver surgery,” Dr Sadiq said.
The doctor said that Maryam’s health was already compromised due to the liver disease after which she succumbed to the virus. “The Covid-19 caused by acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS- CoV-2) has also been reported in children”, the dean added.
While confirming the first death of a child, he said so far 37 children suffering from Covid-19 have been discharged from the hospital while eight others are still under treatment.
