PPP lawmaker Naveed Qamar said the arrest of MNA Ali Wazir is a violation of a National Assembly rule under which the speaker has to be informed of the arrest of any member of the National Assembly.
Rule 103 of Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in NA, 2007 states the speaker must be informed if a National Assembly member is arrested, Qamar said.
Under Rule 105, the speaker is then bound to tell NA members of the detention, he stated. Instead the parliamentarians learnt about Wazir’s arrest from the media, he added.
Wazir was taken into custody on Sunday, following a clash between PTM members and the armed forces in North Waziristan.
Sources within the party stated that the security forces opened fire at a peaceful PTM rally, injuring several people.
