PM Imran Orders Cabinet To Defend Ministers Accused Of Corruption
Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday reportedly directed the cabinet members to ‘defend’ the ministers accused of corruption in the power sector, according to sources.

Pakistan Today reported that the sources in the Prime Minister Office (PMO) have claimed that the premier has directed his cabinet members to defend the corruption-accused federal ministers and advisors, including Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Petroleum Nadeem Babar, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Khusro Bakhtiyar, and PM’s aide on textile industry and commerce Abdul Razak Dawood.

The sources quoted the prime minister as saying, “Nadeem Babar, Khusro Bakhtiyar and Abdul Razak Dawood are honest and competent ministers. There is no doubt about the credibility of these three ministers and I am hopeful that the inquiry commission would clear them of all corruption charges.” PM Imran gave these remarks in the absence of the aforementioned ministers.

The prime minister said that the former governments of Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) signed agreements with independent power producers in the past. He said that masses of Pakistan were getting costly electricity due to flawed policies of the past governments.

PM’s aide Nadeem Babar’s Orient Company is said to have made an additional $1.7 billion from the power consumers illegally.
