Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has refused to answer if he would accept Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz as potential prime minister of Pakistan.
The reporter had asked whether it was allowed in Islam for women to become head of governments. At this,Fazl, who was flanked by Maryam during his talk with the reporters, took a jibe at the reporter, saying the 'question was planted by the ruling PTI'.
Fazl had called on Maryam Nawaz at Jati Umra residence in Raiwind and discussed with her the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) plan of protest rallies to send the 'selected' government home.
At the meeting, Nawaz congratulated the Maulana for becoming the first president of the PDM, saying 'we are very delighted to have you as the PDM president'.
In Aug, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman declined a meeting with PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz, saying he didn’t want to get involved in ‘not-so-secret tug of control’ between groups led by Maryam and her uncle Shehbaz Sharif.
The claim was made by HUM News anchor Abdul Malick, who said the source of this information was the people present in a recent meeting between Fazl and Shehbaz. According to Malik, Fazl made the abovementioned remarks when Shehbaz was not present in the room.
However, the JUI-F chief refuted these claims by Malick. He said Maryam Nawaz never ‘formally invited’ him for a meeting nor has he said ‘no to any such invite’. He said he never talked to Malick about this or any other issue.
Fazlur Rehman was also appointed as the head of the newly-formed Pakistan Democratic Movement. The decision was taken at an online meeting of the joint opposition alliance.
The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) in a bid to oust the government has decided phase-wise protests against the ruling PTI. They also demanded the immediate resignation of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
PDM announced that the opposition parties would launch a three-phased anti-government movement from next month, with countrywide public meetings, protest demonstrations and rallies in December, and a ‘decisive’ long march towards Islamabad in January 2021.
The opposition said it would enlist lawyers, traders, farmers, students, media as well as members of the civil society in its movement against the government. The resolution said the opposition parties will use every ‘legal and constitutional option in and out of parliament, which include moving no-confidence motions and collective resignations from assemblies at an appropriate time’, the resolution stated.
The opposition also demanded a new accountability law in the country in compliance with the Supreme Court verdict and suggestions made by the human rights watchdogs and the Council of Islamic Ideology. It also demanded accountability for all so that everyone could be held accountable, including bureaucrats, lawmakers, judicial and army officials.
