Police in Muzaffargarh have arrested a muezzin under charges of alleged sexual assault of a minor boy.
According to a report in Dawn, the FIR pertaining to the case was registered by the boy’s father at Sethpur station under Section 377 (unnatural offence) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
As detailed by the FIR, the boy went to a nearby mosque inside a shrine to study the Quran on Tuesday. According to the complainant, the boy returned home crying and told his father about the incident.
The suspect was the muezzin of the mosque and reportedly took the boy into the Darbar Sharif and allegedly assaulted him. He also gave him Rs 10 in an attempt to keep his victim silent.
Police arrested the suspect as soon as they received information about the incident.
