General Musharraf Has Right To Appeal Conviction, Says HRCP
The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan has said that General Musharraf had a right to appeal the verdict in the high treason case.

In a tweet, the rights body stated that the former president had a right to appeal his conviction, while adding that it stood for the abolition of the death penalty.

It further said that emotive responses to the judgement should remain irrelevant to the due process of law.

The HRCP also affirmed its belief that Article 6 was an essential part of the constitution of Pakistan, and that anybody violating the article must be charged and prosecuted.

Meanwhile, the Amnesty International had stated on Tuesday that Musharraf should receive a fair trial without recourse to the death penalty.

Though the international right organisation had welcomed the decision, it had stated that the punishment of death was the ultimate cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment.
