The Faizabad sit-in inquiry commission is trying to protect Lt Gen (retired) Faiz Hameed, and it is just fulfilling formalities by recording the statements of then-prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and then-interior minister Ahsan Iqbal.
While speaking at a program on Naya Daur TV, senior analyst Muzamal Suharwardy said that the inquiry commission is on a mission to save Faiz, adding that only former Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) chairman Absar Alam can ‘change the game.’
The analyst said that the commission should ask Lt Gen (retired) Faiz Hameed why he signed the negotiation agreement, adding that according to the constitution, no army officer can sign any political agreement.
Suharwardy said that Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Ahsan Iqbal should be questioned in what capacity Lt Gen (retired) Faiz signed the agreement. “If they (Ahsan and Abbasi) say they allow him to sign the agreement, then Article 6 should apply to both politicians. But the inquiry commission will never do this, as it aims to protect Faiz,” he added.
While responding to a question, the analyst said that former prime minister Imran Khan picked a ‘neutral man', Barrister Gohar Khan, for the slot of PTI chairman amid a tussle between his wife Bushra Bibi, and his sisters.
To another question, Suharwardy said that Justice Sayyed Muhammad Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi has challenged the second show-cause notice in the apex court issued to him by the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) for alleged corrupt practices. He added that Justice Naqvi is pursuing delaying tactics and waiting for the retirement of Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, but he could not avert accountability.
While talking about alleged conflicts between Asif Ali Zardari and his son Bilawal Bhutto, the analyst said that Zardari has surrendered in front of his son. He added that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal has not changed his policy, and he will keep targeting Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) as part of his election campaign.
