Women Also Behind Our Struggle For Civilian Supremacy: Maulana Fazl
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that women are among the supporters of the Azadi March, and that the party respects their support for civilian supremacy and democracy.

While talking to Naya Daur on Saturday about the minimal participation of women in the Azadi March, the JUI-F chief said that there were no restrictions on the participation of women and that every party had its own culture. He added, “If we deviate from that culture, it would result in problems for women.”

He stated that there was no need to make an issue out of women’s participation in the sit-in, adding, “Whenever religious parties get together for protest, such issues are raised. Such narrow-mindedness saddens me.”

Regarding the question about women who support the party’s narrative and desired to attend the march, the JUI-F chief stated, “All the people present here, their women are also in our support, and they are showing their support by acts such as fasting.”

He added that if they wanted to come, they are allowed to, but he emphasised that in such an environment, women would find themselves uncomfortable. “We don’t want to create problems for them,” he said.

Moreover, regarding the question about the support given by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) to the Azadi March, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that he was satisfied by the support given by the PML-N, and a national narrative had been formed by the unprecedented support of the opposition parties.

In response to a question about whether his two-day ultimatum would mean anything considering the numbers he has in Islamabad, Maulana Fazlur Rehman stated that his supporters had come from across the country and were enthusiastic enough to give a tough time to the government.
