DG ISPR’s Statement Shows Military Is Biased: Maulana Fazl
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, in response to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Major General Asif Ghafoor’s question about the state institution he was referring to, has said that the DG ISPR’s statement shows that the military was biased.

On Friday night, the DG ISPR had asked the JUI-F chief which state institutions he was referring to when he gave a two-day ultimatum during his address to the Jalsa in Islamabad. Major General Asif Ghafoor had said that the Pakistan Army was an impartial institution, which always supported democratically elected governments in accordance with the constitution.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman, in his address to his supporters, had said that if ‘institutions’ tried to protect the government of Imran Khan after the expiration of the two-day ultimatum, then no one could stop the opposition from forming an opinion about the ‘institutions’.

In response to Maulana’s comments, the DG ISPR had asked him to clarify which ‘institutions’ he was referring to, adding that nobody would be allowed to create instability as the country could not afford chaos.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman stated that when the DG ISPR talked about the constitutional role of the army, he himself made it clear what institution the former was referring to.

The JUI-F chief said that they (the military) should not involve themselves in politics, adding that they did not want conflict with the military, but the DG ISPR was pushing the institution towards a collision course with the people.

He further asked on what basis the DG ISPR gave his comments, and that such statements should have been given by a politician. Maulana said that the army is an impartial institution, as the DG ISPR says, but his statement showed that the military was not impartial.

Moreover, senior leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Ahsan Iqbal, has said in response to DG ISPR’s comments would have been better when the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Awami Tehreek held their dharna in 2014, which ‘sabotaged’ the Chinese president’s visit.
