The cleric who had been arrested by Rawalpindi Police on the accusation of assaulting a 12-year-old boy has confessed to his crime.
On Friday, the Saddar Bairooni police had arrested a cleric on the charges of sexually assaulting a boy regularly in a mosque.
The cleric, now identified as Maulvi Liaquat, has been accused of raping the boy various times.
CPO Faisal Rana and Saddar Superintendent Police Rai Mazhar informed media that during the investigation, the cleric confessed to raping the 12-year-old boy multiple times.
SP Mazhar said that DNA samples of the suspect would be tested on Monday.
He also said that the victim’s family and neighbours who had protested against the police when the suspect was arrested, were now demanding strict action against him after confirmation of rape in the medical report.
