Pakistan Reopens Air Space After Months Of Restrictions

Pakistan Reopens Air Space After Months Of Restrictions
Pakistan on Tuesday reopened its air space for all kinds of civilian traffic which was previously closed after clashes with neighboring India. The reopened airspace will enable international flights taking off from India to fly over Pakistan.

It is pertained to mention here that prior to this decision, Indian airlines including Air India suffered heavy financial losses due to air space closure. AFP quotes Pakistani Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) which says, " With immediate effect, Pakistan`s airspace is open for all civilian traffic".

The primary air space closure was along the eastern border with India where the latter had to opt for alternative international routes to avoid Pakistan`s airspace.

A CAA official confirmed AFP that the said eastern space has been fully opened. The international routes which were affected by the closure mainly involved flights to and from Islamabad and Lahore to the eastern front including Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, etc.

Although the recent closure was a result of an aerial dogfight between the two nuclear-armed countries back in February, tensions have been prevalent along the eastern border for decades.

Indian Civil Aviation tweeted the following update after Pakistani authorities opened the said airspace.

"After cancellation of NOTAMS by Pakistan and India in the early hours today, there are no restrictions on airspaces of both countries, flights have started using the closed air routes, bringing a significant relief for airlines."

A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) is a notice filed with an aviation authority to alert aircraft pilots of potential hazards along a flight route or at a location that could affect the safety of the flight.
