Chief Justice Claims That People Misunderstand The Concept Of Life Imprisonment
During a hearing on Monday, the Chief Justice claimed that people are under the impression that a life sentence is only for 25 years. He made it clear to the court that a life sentence, as the term implies, is for life. It will last till the sentenced individual ceases to live, and that if people understood the true gravity of the situation they'd file applications seeking the death sentence instead.

A three member bench, with Justice Sardar Tariq and Justice Qazi Muhammad Amin rejected the review application of a man sentence for armed robbery and murder, an incident that took place in 2001. He and his accomplices were previously sentenced to death, but in 2018 the supreme court had  converted the sentence of Waheed into a life sentence. On the 13th of May 2019 the Sindh High Court upheld the life imprisonment sentence of Sharukh Jatoi after the Supreme Court took suo motu notice of them receiving bail  after pressure from the civil society.
