Second SJC Show-Cause By Majority Spells Trouble For Justice Naqvi

By a majority of four to one, the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) has issued a show-cause notice afresh to a sitting Supreme Court judge, Justice Sayyed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi, with a direction to come up with his defense by filing a reply within a fortnight.

While speaking at a program on Naya Daur TV, senior analyst Muzamal Suharwardy said that Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Muhammad Ameer Bhatti has changed his opinion regarding Justice Naqvi and has become neutral while keeping in view the situation.

The analyst said that Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan is the only judge still in favor of Justice Naqvi. He said that Justice Ameer’s son-in-law was in the former ruling party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and the LHC gave huge relief to the party in the past.

“LHC CJ Ameer Bhatti’s change of opinion is the final nail in the coffin of Justice Naqvi,” Suharwardy said.

While responding to a question about Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto’s statement in which he suggested senior politicians retire from politics, the analyst said it is not clear to whom he was addressing, adding that Bilawal also has a conflict with his father Asif Ali Zardari because the PPP central executive is still under Zardari’s control.

Suharwardy said that Bilawal is desperate because no political opponent is responding to his statements.

While talking about the expected interview of property tycoon Malik Riaz, he said that the interview is not yet recorded but will soon be recorded and broadcast, after which Riaz will get minor relief.
