Jahangir Tareen Must Not Attend Govt, PTI Meetings: Qureshi

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Monday criticized Jahangir Khan Tareen for attending government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) meetings because the latter’s involvement in official matters was giving ‘Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) a chance to criticize PTI’.

Qureshi said this during a press conference. “PML-N raises questions whenever Jahangir Tareen attends government and party meetings. Jahangir attending government meetings is equivalent to contempt of court,” he said.

He also said that renaming the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) was ‘politically incorrect’. “Changing its name will not be politically correct. The issue is not of the programme’s name but work and renaming it will be equivalent to making an issue out of a non-issue,” the minister said.

In response, Jahangir Khan took to Twitter and said that Prime Minister Imran Khan was his leader and he is only answerable to him. “There’s only one man in my life whom I consider my leader & to whom I’m answerable. His name is Imran Khan.”

Tareen said that he was with Khan through thick and thin and that he will continue to support the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief till his ‘last breath’. “What others may say about me for their own strange reasons does not concern me.”

PTI leader Faisal Vawda came in Tareen’s defence saying that he sits in official meeting on insistence of cabinet members like himself. He said that no one in the party can dictate them but PM Imran Khan.
