'Eat 1 Roti Instead of 2': KP Assembly Speaker Shares Key To End Poverty
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly Speaker Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani has suggested that savings can help tackle poverty and control inflation.

Ghani said this while speaking at ‘Meet the Press’ programme organised by Khyber Union of Journalists at Peshawar Press Club. On a question about poverty and inflation, Ghani said that if people start making savings, poverty would reduce to a great degree.

“If a person who eats two rotis in a day, brings the number to one then the next day he can afford to eat two to three roties,” he said. Ghani said that he tries to maintain role of a bridge between the treasury and opposition benches.

Ghani also said that as the speaker, it is his primary responsibility to remain impartial regardless of his party affiliation. He also appreciated the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) for recovering more than Rs5billion, adding that more recoveries are expected in the coming days.

The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is struggling to control Pakistan's economic woes.

Inflation hit 9.41 percent on Monday, a five-year high. Two days earlier on Friday, petrol prices were increased by Rs6 per litre amid severe backlash for the ruling PTI. The prices of light diesel and kerosene oil increased by Rs3 per litre each, while high-speed diesel soared to Rs117.43.

Prices of food and non-food items have also sharply increased.
