China Will Now Give 20,000 Scholarships To Pakistani Students Each Year
In an attempt to further strengthen ties between the two countries, the government of China has decided to increase the number of Scholarships granted to Pakistani students annually to 20,000.
China’s Ambassador in Islamabad Yao Jing made the announcement during an event ‘China-Photo Exhibition’ held at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) in Islamabad.
He said that it were the people who mattered in the relationship between the two countries and student exchange was an ideal way to further enhance ties.
20,000 is the highest number of Scholarships that will be provided to any country.
Last year, over 1,000 students were granted Scholarships to study in various universities in China. In total, 22,000 Pakistani students were enrolled in various programs in Chinese universities, according to The News.
China has become the most popular destination for Pakistani students as the number of total students has risen from 5,000 to 22,000 in the past five years. This rise has come after Chinese government offered numerous Scholarships to Pakistani students under the Belt And Road Initiative.
The Chinese Ministry of Education issued official statistics in 2018 according to which around 489,200 students from 204 countries and regions studied in 935 higher institutions across China last year.
Pakistan topped the list with most students and was followed by South Korea, Thailand, the United States and India.
