After Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supreme leader Nawaz Sharif agreed to attend an all-party conference on the invitation of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, the party has decided to broadcast his address on social media.
According to PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz, the former prime minister's address to the multi-party moot via video link from London will be broadcasted on Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and other social media platforms to circumvent a potential ban by the government.
On Friday, the PPP chairman extended an invitation to the ex-PM to take part in the moot on Sept 20. “Just spoke to Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif. Enquired about his health. Also invited him to virtually attend opposition APC, hosted by PPP, on 20th September,” said Bilawal in his tweet.
Maryam Nawaz thanked him for calling and inviting Nawaz Sharif to the APC. In her tweet, she said, “Thank you Bilawal. Warm regards & prayers.”
A joint body of opposition parties, Rehbar Committee, had decided to hold the APC on Sept 20, Sunday, at a local hotel in Islamabad.
"The situation in the country has reached a stage where we cannot afford even a moment’s delay," JUI-F's Akram Khan Durrani had said after a meeting of the Rehbar Committee on Sept 4.
The huddle would chalk out a future plan of action regarding the numerous issues faced by the country, especially the bad governance, sugar and wheat scandals and inflation. "The APC will decide whether there will be a new election or an in-house change." PPP's Raja Pervaiz Ashraf had said.
This would the first appearance of Nawaz Sharif in any political setting since November 2019. Before this, Nawaz Sharif has maintained a low public profile and refrained from responding to journalists’ questions about various political developments, as per a report in Dawn.
Although he has met with visiting PML-N representatives and other politicians and diplomats over the year, he has not made any comments directly.
