IHC Appoints First Woman Judge

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) will appoint its first female judge today (Friday).

Lubna Saleen Pervaiz, along with two others, will take the oath at the IHC for the position of a judge. This is a year long term after which an extension can be made if the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP), which is headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan, advises the government to.

The appointments of these three judges were made by the President under Article 175-A of the constitution. After this one year, the JCP will advise a government committee on the topic of the extension of their tenures.

Before the 18th Amendment, the government was advised by the president over the matter of extensions but after the amendment, it is the JCP who advises the government committee.

The IHC currently had four positions filled up out of the sanctioned seven. The addition of these three fills up all the seats.
