A money lender on Tuesday forcibly married an 8-year-old girl in Ghotki, Sindh to avenge her father’s failure to return his loan.
SSP Ghotki took notice of the incident and arrested the culprits. The girl was also recovered by the authorities.
The incident was reported from a nearby village after the girl’s family staged a protest demanding she be recovered at the earliest.
Samina’s father had borrowed 0.1 million rupees 4 months back on a hefty interest rate, but failed to pay back the loan.
There has recently been an increase in the incidents of child marriages in the country. Forced marriages are often facilitated by local influentials and later justified on one pretext or the other.
