The United States State Department has welcomed the indictment of Jamaat-ud-Dawah (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed and has called for Pakistan to ensure full prosecution in his trial.

The US State Department’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs (SCA) in a tweet welcomed the indictment of Hafiz Saeed and his associates. It called for Pakistan to ensure full prosecution and expeditious trial in line with its international obligations.

It further stated that Pakistan should counter terror financing and bring the perpetrators of terrorist attacks to justice.

On Wednesday, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) indicted JuD chief Hafiz Saeed and other party leaders, who had been booked in July this year in multiple cases related to alleged terror financing and money laundering.

On July 3, leaders of the JuD had been booked in various cases under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA), 1997. The Counter-Terrorism Department, which registered the cases, had said that the JuD was involved in terror financing via massive funds collected through non-profit organisations including Dawat-ul-Irshad Trust, Muaz Bin Jabal Trust, Al Anfaal Trust, Al Hamd Trust and Al Madina Foundation Trust.
