The Lahore High Court annulled the death sentence of a man who had killed his daughter for not making a ‘round roti’ for him and acquitted him for lack of evidence.

In 2016, Khalid Mehmood had been awarded a death sentence and had received a fine of Rs500,000 by a sessions court.

Mahmood was a resident of Shadbagh who had allegedly confessed to killing his teenage daughter to police.

Mahmood had filed an appeal against the sentence, contending that the police had failed to produce any evidence against him before the trial court. He further argued that the trial court had announced the verdict in the absence of substantial evidence.

Mehmood’s counsel asked the Lahore High Court to annul the trial court’s decision due to lack of evidence.

The sentence was annulled by a two-judge member of Justice Shehram Sarwar, which also acquitted the appellant for lack of evidence.
