Former Indian cricketer and politican Navjot Singh Sidhu has slammed the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for using the country’s armed forces for political motives.

Sidhu, who came under fire for saying that ‘an entire nation cannot be blamed for actions of terrorists’ after the Pulwama Attack, took jabs at the ruling party via Twitter.

He demanded answers over Indian claims that more than 300 ‘terrorists’ were killed during ‘airstrikes’ near the Balakot region in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

“300 terrorist dead, Yes or No? What was the purpose then? Were you uprooting terrorist or trees? Was it an election gimmick? Deceit possesses our land in guise of fighting a foreign enemy,” he tweeted.

Sidhu also asked the BJP government to stop politicizing the army as it was as sacred an institution as the state.

Last week, Indian Air Force (IAF) intruded into Pakistan’s territory and dropped payload near Balakot during a hasty escape after getting chased by the Pakistan Air Force (PAF).

Indian government and media claimed that their air force killed over 300 ‘terrorists’ and destroyed ‘terrorist hideouts’. However, Pakistani authorities confirmed that only a few trees were damaged while an individual was injured.

Sidhu had come under fire for saying that the entire Pakistani nation cannot be blamed for acts of ‘terrorists’ after the Pulwama Attack. He was called ‘anti-national’ by extremist elements in India and was removed from the Kapil Sharma show.

Less than a month after his removal from the show, Sidhu was called back.
