Government College University (GCU) Lahore students defied administrative curbs to join the Students Solidarity March today after the administration shut down gates to prevent students from partaking in the protest.
According to reports on social media, GCU authorities locked the gates of the campus to prevent students from joining the student march protesters present outside the campus near Istanbul Chowk. Students present on the campus reportedly chanted for the gates to be opened, as they appeared to join the protesters present outside.
Moreover, students repeatedly promised authorities that their protests would be peaceful and orderly. They threatened that if gates were not opened, they would start announcing the names of faculty who mistreated students.
Authorities also videotaped protesters. The gates were later opened and the students moved out to join the protesters.
There have been reports that the administration not only closed the gates, but also threatened students not to join the march.
