Recently, Prime Minister Imran Khan cancelled his visit to Malaysia to attend the Kuala Lumpur summit. The visit had been cancelled following a meeting between the prime minister and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman.

Turkish president Tayyip Erdogan had later stated that PM Imran did not attend the summit as Saudi Arabia had engaged in economic blackmail to coerce Pakistan into not taking part. Erdogan had said that Saudi Arabia had threatened to withdraw $6 billion that it had deposited in Pakistan’s central bank and warned of more economic sanctions in case it attended the event.
