Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has been granted a six-week bail by the Supreme Court of Pakistan on medical grounds.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa heard the petition filed by Nawaz Sharif’s defence lawyers. In his remarks, Justice Khosa said that Nawaz can not go abroad and that he must submit two bounties of Rs 5 million each.

Nawaz's counsel Khawaja Harris had requested a bail of 8-weeks which was not accepted by the court. Nawaz was granted a six-week bail. Harris requested that the apex court grant bail to former PM until his health improves and that he will serve the remaining period of his sentence after he receives treatment.
Justice Yahya Afridi said that the court will review if Nawaz could be granted bail till his health condition gets better.
Nawaz's counsel had filed bail petition earlier this year citing Nawaz's deteriorating health.

According to reports, the former PM wants to travel abroad and does not want to be treated in Pakistan. On March 14, during a meeting with family members at Kot Lakhpat Jail, Nawaz said that he would not go to the hospital. “I have left my case to Allah. Whatever happens, happens. I will not go to the hospital.”
He had also accused the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of not providing him with treatment and 'dragging' him from one hospital to another simply for medical examination.
Last month, Prime Minister Imran Khan ordered the Punjab government to take Nawaz to any hospital of his choice for treatment.
