Bilawal Visits Matiullah Jan’s House, Says ‘Fascist’ Govt Targeting Dissenting Journalists
Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari visited the residence of senior journalist Matiullah Jan to extend support to him after he was briefly kidnapped by armed men in Islamabad two days ago.

Talking to reporters, the PPP chief said the abduction was an attack on democracy and media freedom. “An attack such as this one is not only unlawful and against the Constitution, but also inhumane,” he added.

“I have come here today to extend my support to Matiullah Jan because what happened with him can happen with you or me as well,” he added.

Responding to Bilawal, the journalist thanked the PPP chairperson and other political parties for supporting him. “Freedom of speech is not only important for journalists but also Parliament and the judiciary,” he said.

After his release, the senior journalist told the Supreme Court that his abduction was directly linked to the contempt of court against him.

On Tuesday, Matiullah Jan was abducted outside a school in Islamabad where he had come to drop his wife. Video footage showed Jan being pushed into a car by armed men wearing police uniforms.

Journalist Matiullah Jan recently opened up about his abduction. In a video posted on his Youtube channel, Matiullah Jan said that the abductors came in police uniforms and nabbed him when he was returning after dropping off his wife to a school in Islamabad where she works.
