The Lahore High Court has constituted a three-member full bench to hear a petition filed by former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf challenging the high treason trial against him and the formation of a special court which sentenced him to death.
According to a report in Dawn, the bench will be presided over by Justice Mazahir Ali Akbar Naqvi while Justice Amir Bhatti and Justice Masood Jahangir will be also be a part of it.
The bench would initiate the hearing of the petition in January 2020.
In early December, the former dictator had filed an application in the Lahore High Court calling for it to stop the special court proceedings against him in absentia.
The petition also challenged the special court bench formed to hold his trial while highlighting the legal flaws during the procedure.
Three days after the filing of the petition, Musharraf was handed the death sentence in the high treason verdict.
On December 18, LHC judge Justice Naqvi recommended a full bench to hear the petition and had forwarded the matter to the chief justice for final decision.
