He dedicated the rendition to the women political leaders who led the power show in Multan held on Monday. “Dedicated to the courageous women leading the struggle for democracy in Pakistan,” he wrote on Twitter.
Revolutionary poet Habib Jalib had originally written the poem for Aseefa’s mother and former prime minister Benazir Bhutto when she was fighting dictatorship.
Shahram’s video has since been shared by several people who praised him and the thought behind the rendition.
Here is the full text of the poem:

Dartay hain bandooqon walay, ek nehatti larki se

Phailay hain himmat kay ujalay, ek nehatti larki say

Daray huay, maray huay hain, larzeeda larzeeda hain
Mullah tajir, general jiyalay, ek nehatti larki se

"Aazadi ki baat naa kar, logon say na mil", yeh kehtay hain
Bayhiss, zalim, dil kay kaalay, ek nehatti larki say
