PML-N Condemns FM Qureshi’s Statement Giving Ultimatum To Saudi Arabia
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif has criticised Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi for issuing a ‘highly unfortunate and irresponsible’ statement on the role of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)– a body of Islamic countries led by Saudi Arabia.
In a tweet, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif said: “Qureshi’s statement about brotherly Saudi Arabia is highly unfortunate & irresponsible. It flies in the face of history of our special & trusted relationship with the kingdom.
“The cavalier attitude by this government is undermining Pakistan’s core relations with friendly countries!”
In another tweet, Shehbaz stated that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government’s policy on occupied Kashmir lacked ‘direction and substance’.
“There is a need for a serious and candid review of its performance in this most vital area. Why has the government failed to present its case effectively to the international community?”
In an ultimatum to Saudi Arabia, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi had said that Pakistan will have to look for other options if the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation doesn’t come forward in support of its stance on Kashmir.
Qureshi had said that OIC should decide if it wanted to stand with Pakistan on such a sensitive issue, as Pakistan couldn’t wait for the Saudi support anymore. He said Pakistan skipped Malaysia summit though with a ‘heavy heart’ due to Saudi Arabia’s reservations, so now it was time for Saudis to step forward.
He also said that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia enjoyed good ties and ‘Pakistanis were do anything to for the protection of Madina and Mecca’.
