Tariq Jameel Apologises To Journalists For Calling Them Liars
Maulana Tariq Jameel has apologised to journalists for terming then ‘liars’ during the live telethon for coronsvirus fundraising. He, however, stopped short of apologising for his anti-women remarks whereby he objectified them and blamed them for the spread of coronavirus.
He had said that all of media was a ‘liar’ and all the journalists do, is build up stories on false narratives. On the same show, senior anchor Hamir Mir was also present and got offended.
In a live show with senior journalist, Javed Chaudhry, Maulana Tariq Jameel was reminded of his speech yesterday and how it had lead to hurt the sentiments of two very important factions of the society. To which he said, “I apologize if my words have been misinterpreted, I was pointing at only certain journalists, not all”.
Furthermore, when Chaudhry asked Jamil to name the media owner that he referred to in his speech, he denied any hints towards his name. Earlier, he had mentioned of a media owner whom he recommended to ‘end lies’ from his TV channel.
During the same telethon, Maulana Tariq Jameel blamed ‘immodest women’ for causing coronavirus pandemic in Pakistan. He said that ‘behaya‘ (immodest) women are a national issue and curing the nation of immodesty might lead to a better tomorrow.
People on twitter have also been calling him out for the blatant sexism and objectification of women he has been indulging in for years. A lot of young people have claimed that they used to respect him but now, that won’t happen anymore, because of his hate speech against women.
HRCP is appalled at Maulana #TariqJamil's recent statement inexplicably correlating women's 'modesty' to the #Covid19 pandemic. Such blatant objectification is unacceptable and, when aired on public television, only compounds the misogyny entrenched in society.
