Punjab Govt Failed To Provide Medical Aid To Multan Quarantine Centres, Says FM Qureshi
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has criticised his own party’s government in Punjab saying that the province’s biggest quarantine facility in Multan did not receive medical aid and supplies from the provincial government.
He said that there had been complaints from Multan quarantine centre that they were still lacking the basic medical needs for the treatment of coronavirus patients.
Qureshi said that after this issue was brought into his notice, he contacted the health secretary in Punjab and provincial health minister, to seek their help in providing the medical support needed.
The foreign minister has assured that Punjab health minister and secretary will visit Multan today and will focus more on the healthcare facilities in the south Punjab region and Multan.
The pilgrims coming through Taftan border were kept in the southern part of Punjab, mostly in Multan, for their Covid-19 tests and quarantine period.
Punjab is the worst-hit province of Pakistan in terms of coronavirus cases. As of Monday there were more than 3,500 cases and 42 deaths.
On April 12, Multan reported the largest number people tested positive for coronavirus with the medical staff being at the highest risk of containing the infection, and are still waiting for adequate supplies of Personal Protective Equipment.
