Last month, students across the country marched as part of Students Solidarity March, seeking restoration of unions and redressal of the students' grievances including fee hikes and incidents of sexual harassment.

Student unions were banned in 1984 by General Zia ul Haq on accounts of them being too violent. 35 years later, the conversation around them is starting again.

Prime Minister Imran Khan also tweeted in support unions, stating that they will develop frameworks for them.
