Police Under Fire For Not Nominating PM’s Nephew Hassaan Niazi In FIRs

Law enforcement authorities are under fire for not nominating Prime Minister Imran Khan’s nephew Barrister Hassaan Niazi in the FIRs registered regarding the attack on the Punjab Institute of Cardiology.

According to a report in Dawn, two FIRs against 250 lawyers have been registered under charges of terrorism, murder and street crime. The cases have been lodged on the complaint of PIC chief executive and Shadman SHO.

It had come to light during the attack on PIC that Hassaan Niazi was part of the mob that attacked the hospital. Mobile phone recordings and videos broadcasted by TV channels, the advocate could be seen among the lawyers partaking in violence outside the hospital.

A senior police officer, in his comments to media, dismissed the allegation that police favoured Hassaan Niazi when registering the FIRs. He added that Hassaan, along with 200 lawyers, had gone underground to evade arrest.

Till now, 46 lawyers have been arrested, while police teams were carrying out raids for further arrests.
