Artist Meesha Shafi has approached the Supreme Court to make an appeal that the provincial ombudsperson for protection of harassment against women at the workplace should rehear her case.
Following alleged harassment at the hands of Ali Zafar, Meesha Shafi had filed a complaint with the provincial ombudsperson against Ali Zafar, but the ombudsperson had rejected it as Meesha ‘did not have an employer-employee relationship’ with Ali Zafar. Hence, her case could not be heard on that forum.
The singer had then approached the governor, who did not overturn the ombudsman’s decision. Following this, Meesha approached the Lahore High Court, which dismissed her petition challenging the provincial ombudsperson and governor’s decision.
Meesha filed an appeal before the Supreme Court on Wednesday to nullify the Lahore High Court Order which endorsed the decision of the provincial ombudsman.
Meesha had first put forth allegations of sexual harassment against Ali Zafar in 2018, following which they have been engaged in a legal dispute.
In September of this year, Ali Zafar had filed a Rs 2 billion damages lawsuit, which Meesha claimed to be an intimidation tactic to silence her.
