The Supreme Court has given an extension of six months to Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, while making it conditional to legislation on the matter.
Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, who is heading the bench hearing the case, has also directed the government to submit an undertaking that the parliament would legislate on the matter of extension of army chief’s tenure within six months, or the appointment would become illegal.
The court has also asked that the amended notification regarding the matter should eliminate any mention of the Supreme Court, the duration of the tenure, and the description of army chief’s salary and incentives.
