The Board of  Control for Cricket in India has requested the ICC to let Indian wicketkeeper MS Dhoni keep his insignia gloves on. The request came in on Friday, two days after the match against South Africa. Since then, local and international media have picked up the story while a twitter hashtag, #DhoniKeepTheGlove has been trending backing the BCCI`s decision.

The gloves in question appear to have an Indian Army insignia which could be seen during India`s opening match against South Africa. According to the Indian media, the insignia, a regimental dagger belongs to the Indian para special forces and is also known as the "The Balidiaan Badge".

One of retired Indian army officer and journalist, Gaurav Arya quoted Dhoni as " Lt Col MS Dhoni" due to his association with Indian paramilitary forces in the past.

Whether or not, Dhoni would be allowed to keep the gloves is yet to be seen. Fans, on the other hand, can find out sooner or later in the next Indian game against Australia on Sunday.

ICC rules clearly state that " equipment and clothing regulations do not permit the display of messages that relate to political, religious or racial activities or causes during an international match.
